How do I scan a receipt?

Snap or upload a receipt and SaveTrees reads the amount, the VAT and the shop for you.

For workers · Updated 17 October 2026

Take a photo of your receipt, or pick one you already have, and SaveTrees fills in the amount, the VAT and who you paid. You just add a short description and check it’s right.

Scan a receipt

  1. 1

Open your expense claim. If you haven’t started one, go to Expenses and click Add expense.

Open Expenses in your account(opens SaveTrees in a new tab)
  2. 2

On the right day, find Expense (AI receipt scan) and click Add an expense.

  3. 3

Click Choose a file or photo, then take a photo of the receipt, or pick a photo or PDF.

  4. 4

Wait a moment while it says Reading receipt. The Amount, Vendor and VAT fill themselves in.

  5. 5

Type a Description, check the figures, then click Add to day.

When the claim is ready, click Send for authorisation. See How do I claim expenses and mileage?

Check what it read

  • Boxes SaveTrees filled in are marked Read from the receipt. If it isn’t sure about one, it asks you to check it.
  • Got something wrong? Just type over it.
  • Prefer to type everything yourself? Switch off AI auto-fill.

Good to know

  • Get the whole receipt in the photo, flat and in good light, so the total and the shop name are easy to read.
  • Big phone photos are shrunk automatically before they’re sent. A PDF has to be under 4MB.
  • Nothing is converted between currencies. If the receipt is in a different currency, you’ll see a warning.
  • To swap the receipt later, click the expense, then Replace file or photo.
