How do I claim mileage with a route?

Type where you drove from and to, and SaveTrees works out the miles and the amount for you.

For workers · Updated 17 October 2026

No need to look up the distance. Pick where you set off from and where you went, and SaveTrees works out the miles by road, shows the journey on a map and adds up what you’re owed.

Add a journey

  1. 1

Open your expense claim. If you haven’t started one, go to Expenses and click Add expense.

Open Expenses in your account(opens SaveTrees in a new tab)
  2. 2

On the right day, find Mileage (smart route) and click Add a route.

  3. 3

Start typing where you set off from in From, and pick it from the suggestions.

  4. 4

Do the same in To. The distance, the map and the amount appear straight away.

  5. 5

Drove back too? Switch on return trip to double it.

  6. 6

    Click Add to day.

When the claim is ready, click Send for authorisation. See How do I claim expenses and mileage?

Good to know

  • The amount uses your organisation’s rate per mile, shown at the top of the window.
  • Places you use often appear under Locations, so next time you can pick them with one tap.
  • To change a journey, click it, then change just the end you need to.
  • You can add more than one journey on the same day if your organisation allows it. The box shows how many you’ve used, like 1 of 2 used.
  • Know the miles already? Use the miles box instead and type the number straight in.
